Velociraptor

In the book titled DK Guide to Dinosaurs by David Lambert it shows a picture of a velociraptor and a protoceratops together. Velociraptor hopped up on a protoceratops and the protoceratops knocked it off. The bones were found with Velociraptor's arms around the protoceratops snout and it's legs kicking the throat. I liked that picture of the fossils.

The Velociraptor has big claws on it's back feet that are retractable like a cat's claws. In attacks the claw was lifted higher than normal into the air.

Paleontologists believe the Velociraptor used a scissor-like hand movement for fighting. They had to fight because they were meat eaters. When it attacked it would have it's arms forward out in front of it. When it wasn't attacking it's arms were folded back like a chicken's wings.

The Velociraptor was the same size as a modern day, domesticated turkey at 2 1/2 feet tall, 40 pounds, and 5.9 feet long.

Paleontologists found in 2007 that the Velociraptor had feathers because they found quill knobs in a fossil. It couldn't fly because it only had a few feathers to help keep warm. It also used the feathers to keep the nest warm.

Tomorrow, I'm studying the duck bill dinosaur.

Gabe, signing out.
