Archaeopteryx

The Archaeopteryx was a prehistoric bird that lived during the Jurassic Period. It was 2 to 3 feet long with lots of hollow feathers for flying. It was a meat eater. It had a big claw on it's feet for hunting.

It could dodge trees while flying. But, it did not flap it's wings. It glided through the air. It did not have the strong chest muscles of birds today. It had a different type of tail than birds today. It's tail was very long. It is believed to have had black colored feathers on it's wings.

The Archaeopteryx had a bigger brain than dinosaurs. It is thought to be one of the first examples of how the dinosaurs evolved.
